How CLOAK Works

For 80 years, insect repellents have relied on chemical actives. CLOAK uses skin microbes.

Every repellent on the market still works the same way DEET did in the 1940s. CLOAK is the first repellent built from engineered skin bacteria instead of chemicals, and it lasts far longer.

The Data

CLOAK Keeps Working. Chemical Repellents Do Not.

Chemical repellents lose effectiveness within hours of application. CLOAK's engineered microbes alter the skin's chemistry directly, sustaining protection for days to weeks rather than hours.

Why It's Better

Three Problems With Bug Spray. Solved.

01, Chemical Signature

Zero Chemical Signature.

No active chemical agents, no residue, no detectable scent profile. Engineered biological containment removes the failure points and environmental contamination inherent to topical chemical formulations.

02, Logistics

Logistical Independence.

A single application replaces a full cycle of manual reapplication, reducing consumable resupply burden across both field deployment and civilian use.

03, Chemical Resistance

Resistance-Independent Protection.

Chemical vector control faces documented, accelerating resistance across disease-endemic regions worldwide. CLOAK modifies host-detection signaling rather than acting as a toxic active ingredient, so it is not subject to the evolutionary pressure driving that decline.

Sweat & Wash-Resistant Works Against Aedes, Anopheles, Culex + Sandflies No Reapplication Needed
Safety & Approval

Designed to Meet Regulatory Standards.

We built CLOAK from day one to meet the safety bar that regulators and the military both require.

Regulatory

EPA Registration Pathway

Engineered for review under existing EPA Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division (BPPD), responsible for all regulatory activities associated with biologically-based pesticides, with regulatory engagement initiated early.

Safety

Non-Pathogenic Engineered Strains

Base strains are naturally occurring, non-pathogenic skin bacteria engineered with a favorable safety profile.

Peer Reviewed

Efficacy Data

Efficacy data are generated using blinded study protocols and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Safety is supported by in vivo animal safety studies.
